Bob John is a Pittsburgh based artist known for his interest and art revolving around human ecology.
In his work entitled, Rivercubes, Johnson has created series of cubes from discarded debris collected at local waterways and rivers. Items such as wheels, shopping carts, rope, and bumpers (Pittsburgh, 2004) are included in his cubes. In his presentation, many of these cubes were placed along the waterways they were found, as this work “draws attention to the waterways, while also raising questions about how we treat them” (Laurie & Roger, 2007, p.1-2). His tasteful approach to creating art out of garbage, Johnson call it, through Washington & Jefferson college, "philosophy in action with a sense of humor: serious fun fostering systematic redemption of the stuff we produce and discard” (2013). |
